NEHAWU Wishes NUM A Successful Special National Congress

Tuesday February 28, 2023

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] wishes its sister union, the National Union of Mineworkers [NUM] a successful and productive Special National Congress to be held on the 1st - 2nd March 2023 in Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg.

The Special National Congress is convened under the theme “Back to Basics is when we defend and advance to build a radical movement”. The special congress is a continuation of the unfinished 17th National Congress that was held last year. Its main focus would be on finalising resolutions and the amendments of the union’s constitution.

This special congress presents NUM with an opportunity to grapple with the challenges faced by its members and develop a concrete programme of action that will respond to the challenges which include amongst others: retrenchments, privatisation, job security, health and safety, etc.

Lastly, we look forward to the final progressive resolutions that will emerge from the congress with a strategic objective of strengthening the ability of NUM to continue to be a fighting and campaigning union that places the interests of workers at the centre.

We wish NUM a successful Special National Congress.
